New Varieties of Food Additives Declaration

    1.Definition and types of food additives.

    Food additive is a class of synthetic chemicals or natural substances joined in the food to improve its quality and color, aroma, taste, as well as the antisepsis, refreshment and the need of processing technology. Nutritional enhancer, flavoring, gum base and processing aids in food industry are also included.

    At present, China Food Additives directory has 2314 kinds of additives, a total of 23 categories. There are preservatives, antioxidants, color fixatives, bleaching agent, acidity regulators, coagulators, bulking agents, thickeners, antifoaming agents, sweeteners, colorants, emulsifiers, quality improvers, flavorings, anti-caking agent, enzyme, coating agents, vesicant, spices, nutrition enhancer and other additives.

    2.Declaration of material.

    Declaration of documents:

    a)The application form;

    b)Research report about the produce and its security;

    c)Production process brief and its flow chart;

    d)Quality standard;

    e)The research, utilization information and relevant security information at home and abroad;

    f)Product labels and instructions;

    g)Other useful information;

    Attach a sample of unopened product or 30 grams of raw materials.

    As the imported products, besides the declaration of documents required above, it also needs the following data:

    a)The free sale certificate or production permission of the product issued by relevant departments/agencies in the country (area) where the production enterprise based, or the proof document about food edible history in the country;

    b)Responsibility unit authorization in China.

    3.The test report.

    The test reports required:

    ⑴ The inspection report of food additives (test method and content);

    ⑵ Toxicological safety evaluation report;

    ⑶ Quality specification inspection report;

    ⑷ Performance report of experimental use (nutrition fortifiers need the stability test report);

    ⑸ Other required inspection reports.
